This three-volume series is a culmination of work that started in 1993. His 1996 PhD dissertation addressed the electric vehicle industry of that day, constructing a content analysis of 2,000 media items for biases for and against various battery technologies as theory would predict.
The events that have transpired since 1996 are consistent with the
findings and conclusions in that dissertation, motivating further study that have culminated in the proposed book series.
