The animal on the cover of Decentralized Applications is the silver roughy (Hoplostethus mediterraneus), also known as the Mediterranean slimehead.

This deep-sea fish is widespread throughout the Atlantic and Western Indian Oceans at depths ranging from 100 to 1,175 meters. The silver roughy is small, reaching just 42 centimeters, with an oblong shape, large eyes, and a forked tail.

Silver roughy fish have been known to live up to 11 years. Their diet consists mainly of crustaceans.
