Acknowledgements

As in my first edition, my thanks go to my publishing team – in this case Richard Stagg, Eloise Cook and Emma Devlin. Once again they have exemplified the very best in editorial standards, and once more the feedback I have received has made The Leadership Book a higher quality work than it would have otherwise been.

The roll-call of line managers I cited in my first edition are as influential as they ever were: so, thanks again to Andrew MacLennan, Peter Warwick, Anthony Forbes-Watson, Rob Francis, Henry Reece, Graham Elton, Paula Kahn, Willie Shen, Bachar El Zein, Linda Kennedy, Jim Glover, Jo O’Connor, Colin Babb, Nick Winks, Clive Hay-Smith and John Fallon. The influence of Professor Laurence Handy remains as significant as ever.

Since the first edition was published I have had the privilege of working in a first-rate management team leading Pearson International and I would like to thank these colleagues, too, for the learning I have experienced with them: Rod Bristow, Juan Romero, Dugie Cameron, Paulo Pisano, John Knight, Joanne Dresner, Christine Ozden, Fathima Dada, Peter Miller, Jim Behnke, Gary June, Juan Lopez-Valcarcel, Tamara Minick-Scokalo and Bhav Singh. I owe a special debt to Dugie Cameron for helping me to think about how to treat all colleagues with the respect which drives excellence.

My wife Claire remains an enormous influence. Throughout the life of both editions of this book she has been retraining, and is a shining example of dedication and purpose. I owe her a great deal.
