When you have worked on a presentation for a while, you should save it periodically so you don’t run the risk of losing any of your work in the case of a computer crash or other problem. You should also save any changes before closing a file.
Save a Presentation
Click the Office button and choose Save from the File menu to display the Save As dialog box.
Try This!
If you want to save a previously saved presentation with a new name, perhaps to use as the basis for another presentation, you can choose Save As from the File menu. Enter a new filename and, if you wish, locate another folder in which to save the file. Click Save, and you have saved a copy of the presentation with a new name.
Tip
To quickly save any changes to a previously saved document, simply click the Save button on the Quick Access bar. The file is saved with all previous save settings, without displaying the Save As dialog box.
Tip
You can now save a presentation in XML format, which compresses the file to make it easy to share online. Simply choose Save As, Other Format from the File menu in Step 4 of this task to use this feature.
If you don’t want to save the presentation to the default folder, select another drive or folder.
Type a name for the document of up to 255 characters; you cannot use the characters * : < > | " or /.
To save the document in a format other than the default PowerPoint file format (ppt), select a different format.
Click Save.
Close a Presentation
Click the Save button to be sure all changes have been saved.
Click the Close button to close the file and PowerPoint.
Try This!
If you want to close an open presentation without closing PowerPoint—for example, to begin on a new, blank presentation—click the Office button and choose Close from the File menu.
Tip
You can also close PowerPoint by choosing Exit PowerPoint from the Office menu.
