INNOVATION

INTRODUCTION

The GuruBook’s second theme is innovation. This is a word that gets a lot of mileage in both the public and the private business community. Two tendencies seen repeatedly are the transition from phasing out to development and the transition from being ready for change to creating change—as a game-changer.

The contributors to this pillar of the book focus on how you turn new ideas into practice and generate results, to name some subjects. It is clear when you read the articles that innovation can vary in extent and impact. It can be a matter of radical and completely new initiatives, but it may as well take the shape of smaller, more limited, local innovations.

It is indisputable that innovation must generate value and that this can occur in many ways. In my work on The GuruBook I’ve come across an inspirational nursing home, where an effective innovative culture has succeeded in increasing efficiency, while this increased efficiency has at the same time released human resources that can now better meet the residents’ individual needs. This was innovation with both target and meaning.

Enjoy yourself in this second pillar of the book, including the killing off of the being ready for change concept—a buzzword for many years. Readiness is a passive state in which you await the future. Successful innovators know that innovation is about being a game-changer. To act. To try things out. To be curious. To create.

When? Now!
