General layout of Pentaho User Console

In the following section, we will see the general layout of PUC and familiarize ourselves with the console.

In the upper part of the page, we have the classic options menu as shown in the following screenshot:

A little farther down, on the left-hand side, we find the perspective selector as shown in the following screenshot:

As you can see, the current perspective is Home; but, we can change the perspective by clicking on the selector as shown in the following screenshot:

The Home perspective

In the Home perspective on the lower left, the following options are available:

  • Browse Files: This is used to navigate through our solutions folders and subfolders.
  • Create New: This is used to create analyses and reports.
  • Manage Data Sources: This is used to create and edit data sources.
  • Documentation: This is used to access Pentaho documentation.

In the lower-right corner, we have the following three panels:

  • Welcome: This panel contains Pentaho examples and tutorials.
  • Recent: This panel saves a list of the analyses and reports recently visited by the current user.
  • Favorites: This panel saves the analyses and reports that the user has marked as favorites.

The Browse Files perspective

If we choose the Browse Files perspective in the perspective selector, we will see the following screenshot:

Here we have the following three panels:

  • Browsing home: This is used to navigate through our BI solutions folders and subfolders.
  • home Files: This shows the analyses, reports, and so on that are in the selected folder in the Browsing panel.
  • Folder Actions for home: This shows a list of actions that we can realize on our folders, analyses, reports, and so on.

The Opened perspective

This perspective lets us visualize and interact with the analyses and reports that are running.

The Schedules perspective

If we choose the Schedules perspective in the perspective selector, we will see the following screenshot:

This perspective lets us manage our schedules. Later we will look at this perspective in more detail.

If we choose the Administration perspective in the perspective selector, we will see the following screenshot:

Using this perspective, we can manage Users & Roles and configure the Mail Server and other options (Settings).
