Summary

In this chapter, we talked about Pentaho's functionalities, indicated what license it uses, and defined it. We also talked about Pentaho's modular design and the interaction of its components. We also reviewed the principal projects that integrate the Pentaho suite. We saw a brief historical summary of the different versions of Pentaho BA Server and detailed their principal characteristics. We downloaded Pentaho BA Server and specified its system requirements. We installed Pentaho BA Server, configured the MySQL JDBC driver, and ran it. Using a web browser, we logged in to Pentaho User Console (PUC), saw the general layout of this console, and created the solutions folder Reporting. Using PRD, we published a report in Pentaho BA Server and then ran it from PUC. We saw how to obtain a URL for Pentaho BA Server reports. At the end of the chapter, we talked about Scheduling and how to import reports from PUC. We suggested a series of tasks for you to carry out, to practice what we saw in this chapter.

In the next chapter, we will see how to create, configure, and use hyperlinks and sparklines in our reports.
