In this chapter, we focused on understanding how to talk about performance. We built a vocabulary to discuss performance, determined the best way to summarize performance with percentiles, and developed an intuition to measure performance. We introduced our case study, and then we installed the required tools to run the code samples and the source code provided with this book. In the next chapter, we will look at available tools to measure JVM performance and analyze the performance of our Scala applications.
