Crosstabs editor

In the preceding screenshot we saw the crosstabs editor UI. Now we will describe each of its sections.

  • Available Fields: In this section we find all the fields we can add to our Crosstab.
  • Crosstab Group: Here we place the fields by which the crosstab will be grouped. For example, if we place the films' ratings here, we will obtain a Crosstab for each rating.
  • Row Axis: Here we place the fields to be analyzed horizontally.
  • Column Axis: Here we place the fields to be analyzed vertically.
  • Data Cell: Here we place the fields that we want to measure (facts). These are the fields that will fill our table, and their value will depend on the intersection of the fields of the rows and columns. For this reason, we also must choose the aggregation criteria for these fields.

Note

When adding fields to the crosstab's sections, the order they appear in is important, as a parent-child hierarchy will be formed for each one that we place in a given section. The order of the hierarchy is descendent; that is, the first field will be the parent and the second will be the child. If there is a third field, it will be the child of the second, and so on.

Starting practice

Now we will create our own crosstab and configure it to obtain a final result as shown in the following screenshot:
