Summary

We created a report from scratch and created and configured its data set. We created and established the default value for a Parameter, SelectCountry.

We talked about Subreports, defined what they are, what they let us do, and what new possibilities they bring. We also talked about their behavior and general use. We explained the relationship that exists between the main Report and the different Subreports and how they can communicate. We explained step-by-step how to create and configure our own Subreports.

We added two Subreports to our report, one at a time, and made each of them inline type Subreports. Then we defined the Parameters that the Subreport should import from the main Report.

Next, we created the data sets for the Subreports and configured them to be filtered by the values imported from the main Report.

We also designed the content of both Subreports. In the first, we added and configured a charts, and in the second we created a table.

Finally, to practice what we had seen in this chapter, we proposed that you modify an existing report and add a Subreport to it.

In the next chapter we will learn about Pentaho BA Server and how to publish, display, and work with our reports in Pentaho User Console.
