Cisco voice devices must support a wide variety of connection types. This chapter describes the various analog and digital connections, describes common compression schemes, and concludes with a description of fax-over-IP and modem-over-IP voice networks.

Upon completing this chapter, you will be able to explain the processes and standards for voice digitization, compression, digital signaling, and fax/modem transport as they relate to Voice over IP (VoIP) networks.
