Chapter 12. Business to Business XML Web Services

IN THIS CHAPTER

Now that you've learned the technical details about building Web Services, it's time to put them to use. In this and the next three chapters, you'll be building small applications that use Web Services as you might in the real world. XML Web Services aren't the right choice for every situation. However, I'll try to show you a few places where they do make sense.

In this chapter, we'll be talking about writing Web Services that allow one business to communicate with another. This is also known as a B2B (business-to-business) application. Our B2B application is one that exchanges data between two business applications in separate companies. Because both companies would typically be unwilling to open their systems up to each other, using an XML Web Service allows for data to move back and forth in an orderly and unobtrusive manner.
