The Movie Player (called Totem) supports on gstreamer for DVD playback and the current version of gstreamer lacks the plugins for DVD playback. To play DVDs on JDS, you will need a workaround. DVD playback can be enabled by installing another movie player, e.g. Xine or MPlayer. A procedure for installing Xine includes downloading rpms from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.pub-rio.br/xine/.
You will need the following rpm libraries:
curl-
libdvdcss
w32codec
xinw-ui
linbxine
Install the termcap package by clicking on the Launch → Applications → System Tools → Administration → software install. Next, upgrade the installed curl version on JDS using:
rpm -Uhv curl-7.10.3-1.i386.rpm
Install the other packages as root using:
rpm -i libdvdcss-1.2.8-1.network.i386.rpm libxine1-1_cvs-040109.i586.rpm w32codec-0.52-1.i386.rpm xine-ui-0.9.23cvs-031230.i586.rpm
To play a DVD, start xine by opening a terminal window and typing:
xine
Click the DVD button in the xine toolbar, to start playing a DVD.
To burn a CD, double click the This Computer icon on the JDS desktop, then go to the Go menu and select CD Recorder. Drag and drop any files to this window, then click the Write To CD button. Note that only the root user can burn CDs.
ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd
