Chapter 7. Splashing Around a Bit of Color

This chapter begins Part III of the book. The focus will now shift from the block-level layout issues of CSS to the display of individual blocks and other elements.

Specifically, this chapter emphasizes colors applied to text and other objects, as well as page background colors. It will discuss how to describe colors, where to use them, how to make them work together to achieve specific effects, and other such techniques.

Backgrounds on Web pages can use far more intricate design techniques than simple colors. I'll defer discussion of those alternative ideas to Chapter 11, which includes a discussion of background tricks and techniques.

This chapter begins with a basic discussion about the possible collisions that arise between the way a designer believes a page should look, and the constraints put upon page appearance by the user.
