Appendix: Going Further, Deeper, and Higher

After becoming acquainted with the work of the great inventors, engineers, and makers of the Industrial Revolution, perhaps you’d like to read more about their projects. Well, plenty of resources are available! Here are a few ideas:

  1. Visit www.makezine.com.

This is the Internet home of Make: magazine, which is a bimonthly magazine that provides a ton of do-it-yourself (DIY) ideas in each issue. The projects involve computers, electronics, robotics, metalworking, woodworking, and other disciplines.

  2. Visit a Makerspace in your area.

A Makerspace is an area devoted to making DIY projects. It’s a place where people come together to share ideas, tools, and expertise. Visit http://spaces.makerspace.com/makerspace-directory to see if there is one near you.

  3. Many books are available with additional ideas for exploring science, history, and DIY. My books, Backyard Ballistics, Defending Your Castle, and The Art of the Catapult, are full of interesting projects. Find them and others online or in your local bookstore.
