The Challenge Continues

IN THIS WORKBOOK, and in all of our discussions of leadership, we often use the metaphor of a journey to communicate the active, adventurous spirit of leadership. We talk about leaders as pioneers and trailblazers who take people on expeditions to places they've never been. We talk about summits, and milestones, and signposts.

As with most journeys, the leader's journey does not end with a single project. The journey continues with the next project you take on, and the one after that. As the ancient Chinese proverb says, “There is always a higher mountain.” You know there will be more challenges along the path of your development as a leader. There will be more opportunities for you to do your personal best.

We hope that you will refer back to the questions we've asked you in this workbook. We hope you will use them the next time you face a challenge or discover an amazing opportunity, and begin to explore the possibilities of what you and others can do together. We hope you will teach others to ask these questions. And we hope that you will apply this process not only in your job, but also in your community, in your place of worship, and even in your home.

Challenge is the crucible for greatness. Given the daunting challenges we face today, the potential for greatness is phenomenal. There are no shortages of leadership opportunities, and your leadership talents are needed more than ever. We wish you continuing joy and success on your next leadership challenge.
