POF architecture

POF consists of two major components in its architecture: the POF switch and POF controller (POFOX). Protocol and metadata can be configured via the user interface through a UI. Applications create flow tables as services require. During this procedure, the protocol database could be referenced and the applications download all flow table entries into the designated device through the OpenFlow channel.

POF controller

This is a cross-platform OpenFlow controller that is Java based and also based on OpenFlow protocol version 1.3. POF is supported on it, therefore allowing users to create new packet types and forwarding processes. POFOX functions both on physical and virtual switches that support POF. In addition to these features, it also provides a Java GUI platform that allows users to create, view, and modify the new packet types, tables, entries, and forwarding processes easily.
