In the event that the role of a controller is modified by a switch, an OFPT_ROLE_STATUS message is sent to the controller in order to notify it of the change. Roles of the controller can be changed due to multiple reasons; these include another controller requested to be the master, change in configuration in the switch, and experimenter data being changed.
