Stale Communications Channel

A QP or EEC is said to have a stale connection when that QP or EEC still has connection information and believes that the communications channel is intact, but the remote QP or EEC has been torn down by its CM.

This could happen for a number of reasons. Two examples:

  • The remote CM had torn down the QP or EEC at its end and sent a DREQ, but the DREQ was never received by the local CM.

  • The remote CM may have lost all record of previously established communication channels because its CA crashed and was then rebooted. The local CM was not aware of this and therefore did not clean up (i.e., tear down) its stale QPs and/or EECs.
