Summary

In this chapter, you learned about working with linetypes and lineweights effectively. You reviewed assigning linetypes to objects, and you worked through an exercise on how to load linetypes. You reviewed how to control the linetype scale factor, both globally and individually. You also worked with custom linetypes, creating both simple and complex linetypes.

In the section discussing lineweights, you learned how to control the width of lines AutoCAD uses to draw objects. You learned you can assign lineweights by layer or individually. You learned that lineweights behave differently in model space and paper space. You also worked with controlling how lineweights appear onscreen in model space, by adjusting their apparent scale without affecting their width in paper space or when plotted.

Linetypes and lineweights provide tools that allow you to easily differentiate one object from another, even when the objects are of similar types, such as lines and polylines. By using linetypes and lineweights effectively, you make your drawing easier to understand, and transfer the meaning of your drawing to the viewer.
