Security Considerations for Business

E-BUSINESS IS NOT ONLY ABOUT making business processes available over the web or designing and posting a website online. It is also about doing it securely, to ensure customer and business data is protected. E-business leverages technology to move a physical business into an online business. If the conversion and its security measures are misguided or applied incorrectly, an e-business could be compromised, and its customers’ data stolen. If this were to happen, the integrity and consumer trust of the business is likely to fail. This can and does occur to small businesses as well as some of the largest online vendors, in spite of large expenditures on security measures.

E-commerce has seen a steady increase on the internet and web. So much so, that an online business component is expected of businesses today, especially retail businesses. This chapter explores the objectives of e-commerce, including its mission, creation, management, and, most certainly, its security.
