6.1. Codexa “Big Bang” Architecture Explodes onto the Scene

Codexa Corporation is an Internet information application service provider (ASP), founded in 1999 to help professional investors and traders to cope effectively with the avalanche of available financial information. Codexa's customers include top investment and trading institutions with worldwide reach. Like the industry that it serves, Codexa moves fast. Release 1.0 of Codexa's product, known as the Codexa Service, was first deployed for selected customers in January 2000, less than a year after the company's founding. The far more sophisticated version 2.0, based on J2EE technology, was released in beta in October 2000.

Codexa's patent-pending infrastructure uses autonomous software agents to analyze traditional and nontraditional digital data sources. These include information sources on the Web, such as message boards and financial and corporate Web sites, plus conventional market data, wire services, and SEC/Edgar feeds. The Codexa Service gathers and aggregates this raw data for Codexa's clients. Using artificial intelligence and intelligence-augmentation techniques, combined with natural-language processing, the Codexa Service filters, parses, and prioritizes information to match clients' selection criteria before alerting them via the Web, process-to-process communications, or mobile device alerts.
