No matter what how complex your site plan, whether it be an immense, complex, HVAC plan for a large factory, or a brief overview of your new office, Microsoft Office Visio 2007 is a superb tool for mapping it. Office Visio 2007 has a limited number of shapes specifically designed for creating office layouts, but you can create any type of building for any purpose using Visio 2007’s wall shapes. Besides the basic shapes, like wall shapes, Visio 2007 also has shapes for more complex purposes, such as home plans, manufacturing plants, office space, and all related building services, including heating and cooling systems, plumbing lines, and electrical layouts.

Just like everything else in Visio 2007, shapes and templates for creating building plans are designed for simplicity. Anyone can create an accurate, to-scale floor plan by measuring and drawing carefully. If you have a background in architecture, construction, or engineering, you can use Visio 2007 to design the kind of good plans your discipline calls for.

Note

Some of the techniques, shapes, and commands described in this chapter are available only in Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007. A note appears when this is the case.
