A Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 site is a secure Web site that is great for businesses that need to extend information to their employees quickly. Two of the most useful features of a SharePoint site are the search function that allows you to hunt the entire SharePoint site for the information you enter and a Document Library that stores all shared documents, Lists, Links, Announcements, Contacts, Events, Tasks, and Issues. SharePoint site users may also utilize discussion boards, surveys, alerts, and front-page customization. With Visio 2007, you can import from and upload data to a SharePoint site and enter information, manage, update it, or anything else you need to do. For example, follow these simple steps to import data from a SharePoint site to a Pivot Diagram:
1. | Open a PivotDiagram template under Business Solutions. |
2. | Select Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services List when prompted for which data to use. Figure 5-12 displays this action. If you have done this step before, choose the Previously Created Connection option. Figure 5-12. This dialog box, which appears after you have selected the PivotDiagram template, lets you decide from seven options. Choose Microsoft Windows SharePoint List to import your SharePoint data.
|
3. | Click Next. |
4. | In the Data Selector dialog box, type your SharePoint URL, then click Next. |
5. | Click the list you want from the Lists menu and click Next. There are also two other options on this menu from the Link Options:
|
6. | Click Finish. |
After you complete these steps, the list you selected from your SharePoint site should appear in Pivot Diagram form. On the bottom left side of your screen, three categories of options should display: Add Category, Add Total, and Actions. Under Add Category and Add Total, the options vary according to the list you choose. But under Actions, the choices are Apply Shape, Refresh Data, and a drop-down list of Other Actions. Figure 5-13 displays these actions and other options.
