ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Not since graduate school have I met someone who has taught me as much as Steve Piersanti, founder and senior editor of Berrett-Koehler. Steve Piersanti has been my Batman, my guru, and the wisest and most supportive editor any author could desire. This book would not be the same without him. There are only a few people who have changed my life and work for the better—Steve is one of them. I owe him a deep debt of gratitude.

When I first witnessed Holly Taylor’s talent, it was on my television screen when she was playing Paige Jennings in The Americans. Then I had the opportunity to witness her vast talent in person at Kean University, when she was my student and created an outstanding portfolio of creative design and advertising. Now we have collaborated to bring this book to life. Thank you, Holly, for sharing this creative journey with me.

When I first saw Lorin Latarro, she was performing on Broadway. Later I was fortunate to get to know her as a brilliant Broadway director and choreographer. My great thanks to Lorin. As I said to her when I read her foreword, “Is there anything you can’t do?”

The folks at Berrett-Koehler were a delight to work with—not only my exceptional editor, Steve, but also all the wonderful people who supported this book from start to finish: María Jesús Aguiló, Charlotte Ashlock, Tryn Brown, Valerie Caldwell, Leslie Crandell, Michael Crowley, Dr. Tricia Farwell, Maren Fox, Kristen Frantz, Kylie Johnston, Shanzeh Khurram, Catherine Lengronne, David Marshall, Sarah Modlin, Courtney Schonfeld, Katie Sheehan, Jeevan Sivasubramaniam, Johanna Vondeling, Edward Wade, and other BK staff whom I haven’t named. Great thanks to peer reviewers Nic Albert, Rachel Henry, and Chloe Lizotte, who offered terrific advice. My thanks to Janet Reed Blake, Dave Peattie of BookMatters, and Leonard Rosenbaum for their support. Special thanks to copy editor Heidi Fritschel.

To Kean University’s president, Dr. Lamont Repollet, and provost and senior vice president, Dr. David Birdsell, I owe immense debts of gratitude. At Kean University, I gratefully acknowledge Dr. Joy Moskovitz, assistant provost and vice president; David Mohney, dean of the Michael Graves College; Rose Gonnella, associate dean of the Michael Graves College; Reenat Hasan Munshi, managing director of the Office of Release Time and Sponsored Programs, and the Release Time for Research Committee; Professor Denise Anderson, Professor Ed Johnston, Professor Craig Konyk, Professor Linda O’Shea, and all my colleagues in the Michael Graves College.

Professional creatives, colleagues, and students took the time to read my manuscript, contribute their expertise, support my project, or offer feedback about the Three Gs. I am grateful to David Baldwin, Arnold Calderon, Jessica Castillo, Bernice Chao, Dr. Jennifer Chen, Ross Chowles, Randy Clark, Dayle of Artful City Style, Dusty Crocker, Nicholas D’Angelo, Kayla Darcy, Meaghan Dee, Dr. Tricia M. Farwell, Sarah Goforth, Pancho González, David Gottwald, Dr. Todd Greer, Stacey Hall, Leslie Haines, Jessica Hawkins, Rob Jolles, Dominic Katransky, Dr. Donald R. Marks, Shannon McCarthy, Dawnmarie McDermid, Ana Carolina Mitchell, Christopher Navetta, Dr. Bob Nelson, Elena Pejovska, Alison Place, Romit Sarkar, Debra Satterfield, Mike Schnaidt, Aaris Sherin, Camille Sherrod, Michael Sherrod, Patrycja Sliwowska, Aggie Toppins, Rich Tu, Dr. Gregory Turner-Rahman, Natalie Tyree, Lillianna Vazquez, Alejandra Vidal, and Donna Wertalik.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.

Loving thanks to Deborah Ceballos; Rose Gonnella; my husband, Dr. Harry Gruenspan; and our daughter, Hayley, who tenderly supported me during this project (and pretty much through everything).
