About the Authors

Formed in 2004, iCoachNewYork is the organization through which the five authors collaborate to train executive coaches. This includes a three-month certificate-level course, the Professional Coaching Program, offered in conjunction with CUNY’s Baruch College, and a graduate level course, Coaching Theory and Practice at New School University. iCoachNewYork also offers consultation and customized in-house programs for internal coaches and case supervision to support the ongoing development of executive coaches. The five authors share long experience as executive coaches, commitment to coach training and development, and professional support for the field of executive coaching. Embodying the Personal Model concept, they differ in background, coaching styles, and coaching interests, as detailed in their bios below.

Michael H. Frisch, Ph.D. Prior to starting his current independent practice, Michael was Senior Consultant and Director of Coaching Services for Personnel Decisions International’s (PDI) New York office. Earlier positions include Manager of Management Development for PepsiCo and consulting on leadership development, management training, feedback processes, and individual development planning. During the course of his career, Michael has presented to groups such as The Conference Board and the Human Resource Planning Society and published articles and book chapters on interviewing, performance management, assessment, internal coaching, and executive coaching. Michael received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Rice University and his MS from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Association, Divisions 13 and 14. Michael is a licensed psychologist in New York State. Robert J. Lee, Ph.D. Bob has been teaching, writing, and speaking on the topic of executive coaching since starting his coaching practice in New York City in 1997. In 2004, he was the prime mover in bringing the current authors together to form iCoachNewYork and create professional training programs for executive coaches that have led to the writing of this book. His prior role was President of the Center for Creative Leadership, the world’s largest leadership development and research organization. Before that, Bob helped create and define the career services industry through his founding and then leadership roles with Lee Hecht Harrison. He has co-authored two prior books, Discovering the Leader in You [2nd Edition, Jossey-Bass, 2011] and Executive Coaching: A Guide for the HR Professional [Wiley/Pfeiffer, 2004]. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Case Western Reserve University and is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. [email protected]

Karen L. Metzger, LCSW, has been an executive coach, management consultant, management trainer, and supervisor of coaches for many years. Her coaching clients range from high-potentials in leadership succession programs to senior-level executives at risk of derailing and cover a wide spectrum of industry sectors, not-for-profit organizations, and professional specialties. Formerly she was a Vice-President in the Human Resources department at Scudder Kemper Investments, providing internal coaching, consulting, and management development training design. She has also been on the professional staff at Lee Hecht Harrison and other career service firms. She has been a faculty member at the Hunter College School of Social Work and in 1998 she co-founded and has co-facilitated the Coaching Learning Group in New York City. Jeremy Robinson, MSW, MCC, is a well-known coach and trainer/supervisor of executive coaches in New York City. He was co-creator and co-academic Director of the Wharton Executive Coaching Workshop at the Aresty Institute Executive Education Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1999, he has been the Dean of the Executive Coach Academy. As a coach and coach trainer, Jeremy has specialized in using an Emotional Intelligence Behavioral model in working with his executive clients, many of whom are at the highest levels of their organizations. He also focuses on coaching African-American, Latino, and LGBT executives toward increasing their organizational influence and visibility. He has presented on executive coaching to the American Psychological Association, the Executive Coaching Summit, the Minority Corporate Counsel Annual Conference, and the International Coach Federation. He is a co-author of the Coaching Development Assessment (CDA), a coach self-development tool. He has a certificate in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy from the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, as well as graduate degrees in Social Work and English Literature/Creative Writing. Judy Rosemarin, MS, LMSW, is a highly experienced executive coach in the New York City area and has coached senior executives on topics such as leadership development, influential listening, and leadership story telling since 1983. She was the original New York Post’s “Careers Plus” weekly columnist and continued in that role for six years, writing about career resilience and effective career management. Judy has had wide media exposure, has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, and has been a featured guest on radio and television programs. Judy is an adjunct faculty member of New York University’s School of Professional Studies. Building on her Influential Listening and Presentation Skills workshop, Judy has created the highly successful Humaway™ StoryTelling technique to increase leadership impact. Judy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography and Journalism, a Masters degree in Counseling from Long Island University, and a Masters degree in Social Work from Adelphi University.
