FINAL THOUGHTS

Share your drawings with the world. And, if you feel so moved, give your drawings away to the person you’ve drawn or to someone who shared the experience with you. Sharing multiplies the joy of creating. When you share your drawings, the three stories contained within them (see here) collide in real life, and you’ll see the power of what you have made: a version of the world that has the ability to delight, move, and inspire.

When I began sharing my daily drawings on social media, I had to come up with a name my account. For many years, I understood the name I chose, Drawn on the Way, in the literal sense: I was drawing on my commute, recording small, seemingly invisible moments in transit. But by noticing the little moments that happen along the way, you also begin living in them. And that makes the literal and metaphorical journey much more interesting.

Since I began drawing daily, there has only been one moment where I lapsed, when my brother passed away. My world stopped and felt like it would never begin again. But one day, the spark showed up, asking me to pick up my pen and create my world again. The simple act of drawing my own shoes, the view from where I sat, brought a very important part of me back to life. I have followed that spark wherever it leads me. And now, I pass it on to you.

This is the final chapter of our story together, but it’s not the end of your journey.

Whatever you do with your new creative practice, remember that its highest purpose is to bring you joy.

Keep your creative process free of judgment and your drawings will always add to the view, bringing love, interest, order, stories, empathy, curiosity, and yes, art to your world. It’s a remarkable transformation that can be done (as we’ve proven) in as little as one minute, with just a simple pen and paper.

We are always in transit. On the way is not a place, it’s an ever-shifting point from which we begin again and again. There’s always another page to turn, new chapters to write, and sketchbooks to fill. This is your life, and I hope you enjoy the view.
