The goal of our VPN connection is to have a direct and secure connection between our computer and the resources in the VPC. Depending on your work environment, there might be multiple options available. You may have the ability to create an IPSec connection using a hardware VPN, your internet provider might have an option to use AWS Direct Connect providing a dedicated private connection from a remote network to your VPC, and so on. What we will demonstrate here is the most rudimentary approach. We will install a VPN server in our infrastructure and use the VPN client available on our operating system to connect to it. We will start with the VPN server.
