We used an ELB at the edge of our network to distribute the traffic across the instances in our Auto Scaling group earlier in this chapter. This load balancer is called an internet-facing load balancer. If you are trying to create a service-to-service communication between two services, you can use the same strategy and put a load balancer in front of your internal service. In that situation, if your services are in the same VPC, you can create an internal load balancer, which will differ from the internet-facing load balancer only in as much as they only have private IP addresses.
