Configuring endpoints for Traffic Manager with the priority routing method

As mentioned earlier, this type of Traffic Manager follows the model of active-passive. In other words, when an endpoint with higher priority goes down, an endpoint with the lower priority will take its place.

Without further ado, let's get our hands with the endpoints for the priority Traffic Manager:

  1. Navigate to the priority Traffic Manager profile
  2. Under SETTINGS, click on Endpoints
  3. A new blade will open; click on Add to add an endpoint
  4. A new blade will open wherein you need to specify the following:
    • Type: Mention the endpoint type that would suit your scenario.
    • Name: Specify a name for the endpoint.
    • Target resource type (for Azure endpoint): Select the target type that would suit your scenario.
    • Target resource (for Azure endpoint): Select the resource for which you want to associate this endpoint with.
    • Priority: Specify the priority number of the endpoint. The lower the number, the higher the priority. Based on the priority, the primary endpoint and backup endpoints will be specified.

  1. Once you click on OK, the endpoint will be added within a minute

All the other types of endpoints can be added to the priority Traffic Manager, the same as performance Traffic Manager endpoints, except with this type you will see that you need to specify a number for the priority for each endpoint type.
