I dedicate this book to a loyal friend whom I laughed with, sang with, traveled with, argued with, agreed with, learned from, and admired. He continuously encouraged me to do more, be better, and never stop learning. He taught me the importance of systems and convinced me that I should focus on process and performance improvement rather than just quality. Of all the quality gurus (Deming, Crosby, Juran, Ishikawa, and Masing), he was the one that had the biggest vision, the best understanding, and the most unique ideas. Unfortunately, he has passed away, as have all the other great gurus. I’m sure we all know who I am talking about. It is Armand (Val) Feigenbaum. Thanks for just being you.

I dedicate this book to my wife and business partner, Violeta Mercedes Granja de Ruggles (“Vivi Ruggles”). You have been an inspiration to me for the past 36 years and the reason for any successes I’ve had in my adult life. Tu éres mi vida!

William Ruggles

I dedicate this book to my amazing stepdaughter, Paige Carey. Thank you for the many ways you inspire me every day. It is such an honor to have a front row seat to witness your development into a bright and talented young woman. You have taught me so much about the important role of each parent in a child’s life and I like to think I’ve taught you some things, too (aside from just video game and basketball skills). I know I still have much to learn as our little family grows and changes, but I’m excited to know that we will face these new experiences together. My life is forever changed for the better with you in it!
