Time for action - working with stylesheets

We are going to take one of the stylesheets and customize it to suit our needs.

  1. Select Edit | Style Sheets from the menu, and the Select HTML Style Sheet window will open. You should see the Default and other stylesheets that ship with GnuCash.
  2. Click on the New button. This will open the New Style Sheet window.
  3. Select a Template from the drop-down and type MACS in the Name box and click on OK. The HTML Style Sheet Properties dialog will open as shown in the following screenshot:

  4. Select the Fonts tab. Change the Number cell and Text cell fonts to Verdana.
  5. This is an optional step. In the Images tab, if you have a suitable image file, select it for Heading Banner.
  6. Click OK to save and close this dialog. Also close the Select HTML Style Sheet window. So far you have created a custom stylesheet. Next we will apply it to our report.
  7. If you have the Account Summary tab still open, you can use that. If not, go ahead and select from the menu Reports | Account Summary. Click on the Options toolbar button.
  8. In the Display tab don't forget to uncheck Include accounts with zero total balances and check Omit zero balance figures, if you have not already done so.
  9. Change the Parent account subtotals to Show subtotals.
  10. In the General tab, change the Stylesheet to MACS and click on OK. You should now see the Account Summary report with all of your selections, and the newly created stylesheet applied, like the following screenshot:

What just happened?

This ability to create a custom stylesheet and assign it to reports and charts will let you have a uniform look and feel for all the reports of your business.

Note

When you make changes to a stylesheet, which you are already using with a report, you will have to Reload the report to see the changes take effect.
