Model building carries positive memories
for many makers. Snapping those parts off
that weird frame, cleaning them up, carefully
assembling and then finally admiring the finished
model. The experience could be so cathartic.
An interesting trend in 3D printing has captured
some of that nostalgia and repackaged it as a new
method of making things.
Kit cards are 3D-printed models that come on
a sprue — the plastic frame that used to be the
result of injection molding — so that you can cut
the pieces free and assemble your model. These
little cards are a clever way of giving someone a
3D printed experience in a tidy, portable package,
so that they too can enjoy the catharsis of building
their model.
Here are six kit cards for you to try out.
