IN THIS CHAPTER
Leveraging Exchange ActiveSync for PDA Mobile Communications
Designing the Appropriate Use of Exchange 2003 Mobility Capabilities
With previous versions of Microsoft's Exchange product, mobility either meant setting up a dial-up or VPN connection to a full Outlook client on a laptop or ending up being drastically limited in features with a partially featured Outlook Web client, or purchasing a third-party product and integrating it into Exchange. With Exchange 2003, however, mobility now includes several options that provide full access to mail, calendars, and contacts, plus varying built-in methods to access information using mobile phones or PDA devices.
Microsoft's strategy on mobility is to provide the ability to have access to email, calendar, contacts, and other important information virtually anywhere. The various mobile access methods to Exchange include
Full Outlook client access over VPN
Full Outlook client access using HTTP Proxy
Outlook Web Access from a browser
Pocket PC access updated by Exchange ActiveSync
Mobile phone access using mobile Web
Accessing Exchange by non-Windows systems
