Best Practices

The following are best practices from this chapter:

  • Use the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) to plan and test policies prior to installation, as well as to debug policy problems after implementation.

  • Use the Resultant Set of Policies (RSoP) to analyze policy enforcement.

  • Administrators should delegate rights to distribute the management and enforcement of group policies.

  • Limit the use of the Block Policy Inheritance option to minimize the administrative tasks of group policy management.

  • Use the Outlk11.adm template file from the Office 2003 Resource Kit (ORK) to improve administrative capabilities of Office 2003.

  • When importing the Outlk11.adm security template, import the template to the Default Domain Group Policy.

  • Use group policies to manage the look and feel of the Outlook client.

  • Do not assign the option to install updates to Users and Computers at the same time. Assigning both options can create conflict about how updates are installed and corrupt the installation of the Outlook client when applying the update.
