About the Authors

Micela Leis

Micela Leis is a research associate in the Insights and Impact group at the Center for Creative Leadership. She leads research and evaluation for K-12 clients, especially in the areas of design and evaluation of school culture change. Her main focus of study is on the importance of trust in adult school communities. She led the development of the Leadership Indicator for Students, a tool for examining youth leadership in schools and youth-focused organization. This work was driven by her prior experience as an elementary school teacher. She holds a BA from Tufts University and a PhD in Education from the University of Virginia.

Susan Reinecke

As a CCL faculty member, Susan designs and delivers custom-designed leadership solutions that include both short-term experiences and systemic initiatives. Her experiences as a professional educator in public and private schools, community colleges, and universities give her an insider’s perspective of the challenges and rewards of innovation for improving leadership for youth and adults. Susan holds an EdM in Human Development and Psychology from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College, a MEd from University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
