Amazon S3

Amazon's offering for the cloud data storage facility is Amazon S3. It is available through the web services API over the internet. It supports the storage of a number of objects based on the procurement, ranging from 1 byte to 5 GB logically in simple namespace access.
Amazon S3 provides persistent storage to store data on the cloud and access it at a later stage. One advantage of cloud storage with S3 is that the storage space is dynamic and could be expanded when you wish to add files to the system based on the chosen plan.

One thing we should remember is that cloud storage is made up of multiple remote system storage systems that combine and act as one logical storage system for each customer. This logical storage system has two levels, called buckets. Buckets are like directories in a file system, but we cannot have a hierarchical bucket structure as we have with directories.
You can access Amazon S3 content through web services, which are relatively faster for cloud applications but not as fast as on-premise disk access.
