Most people were brought up on multiple-choice and true-or-false questions, questions that have only one right answer.

So it’s only natural, when you give them a problem, for them to search for the one right answer, the one right solution.

But most problems in business have no one right solution. They have many solutions. And in searching for the one right solution, people often reject good solutions, sound solutions, solutions that would work, solutions that would inspire other solutions that would work even better.

So make sure the people you work with know you want to see a lot of ideas, not just one.

Otherwise, you may never get to see the best idea they have.
