Features of cloud computing

As discussed previously, cloud computing is a pay-per-usage model for empowering convenient, available, and on-demand access to resources such as networks, servers, storage, applications, and services over the network. Besides, it can be established quickly and demolished with nominal administrating effort or interaction with the cloud service provider.

The following are some of the important characteristics of a cloud architecture:

  • On-demand self-service: As an organization or an administrator of an organization, you can individually establish any of the previously discussed cloud environments without any support from the cloud service provider
  • Global network access: Cloud platforms are easily accessible by universal network access, and they are supported by any type of device or platform
  • Dynamic resource pooling: This is a great feature of a cloud environment wherein the provider's computing resources get shared between different customers, based on the demand for the resource of each customer. Customers can logically see the available resources as a single resource, but they are not aware of how many different remote resources make up the resource the consumer is utilizing.
  • Instantaneous elasticity: The dynamics of a cloud infrastructure can be instantly scaled up or released based on the purchase schemes provided by the customers. This gives great freedom to hold resources that are based on load and memory requirements, which, in turn, is based on the business criteria.
  • Pay per usage: The billing model of a cloud infrastructure can be managed very dynamically, based on the bandwidth, business, and user count over a given period. Also, organizations can choose to procure global access to pay for all the other locations they would procure the environments for from their base location.

The following diagram represents the benefits of using cloud computing in organizations with the characteristics we just discussed:
