Docker CaaS platform components

The Docker CaaS platform offers a suite of integrated software solutions with the ability to perform flexible deployments that meet business requirements, as represented by the following diagram:

The Docker CaaS platform supports diverse installation types, including in-house and cloud provisioning, as follows:

  • In-house support: The on-premise environment installation and support of Docker include the Docker trusted registry and Docker Universal Control Plane deployment processes within the organization's premise/servers. This allows the in-house infrastructure of the organization, including storage, active directory/LDAP, monitoring, and logging solutions, to connect with the environment. The ability to store and manage images within the organization storage infrastructure, including role-based access to these images, is provided by the trusted registry. Visibility across the Docker environment, including Swarm clusters, trusted registry repositories, containers, and multicontainer applications, is provided by the Docker's Universal Control Plane.
  • Cloud support: If you want to readily use SaaS solutions, Docker Hub and Tutum provide a registry service and control plane that are hosted and managed by Docker. Docker Hub is a cloud registry service to store and manage your images along with user authorizations. Docker Tutum provisions and manages the deployment clusters as well as monitors and manages the deployed applications. This gives the flexibility to choose between a cloud infrastructure or deploy the application in our own physical node.
