Typeface in Skin

Thijs Verbeek

Thijs Verbeek lives and works in Amsterdam as a designer for commissioned and self-initiated projects. Between 2006 and 2008, he created this provocative alphabet using clothes pegs and skin. It generates very mixed feelings. Every letter has its own character when applied because of the use of skin and various skin types: flexible skin results in voluptuous shapes, while taut skin gives the letter a sense of imperfection. This makes it hard to predict the final shape. The clothes pegs are more than just a tool for keeping the folds in place. Photos: Arjan Benning.
