The symposium director and book editor would like to thank the following people for their help in making this process competitive, productive, and scholarly. First, Robert Avery, who served as the chair of BEA’s Research Committee when this idea was launched, was both visionary and conscientious as he worked to secure a strong program of research for the symposium. Louise Benjamin carried on the work of the committee after Robert’s tenure as chair with professionalism and enthusiasm for the project. Linda Bathgate, Ross Wagenhofer, and Nicole Salazar, editors for Routledge, were superb in providing timely information about the book’s publishing deadlines and handling contracts with the editor and authors.
