Leadership is not the exclusive domain of some privileged C-Suite enclave; leadership is everywhere and I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by remarkable role models from the earliest age. Huge thanks are (long over) due to the wisdom of my parents – grossly underestimated by their ingrate daughter as you’d expect! – the generous mentorship of many school teachers, the collegiate support of academic colleagues, the lifelong friendship of Giles and Michael, the inspired vision of my Unruly co-founder and soulmate, Scott, the innovation of Unrulies all around the globe, and regular pep talks from the three astounding children, Sunday, Ezra and Lola Rose (in ascending height order).

I am also indebted to the brilliance of friends and founders within the UK tech ecosystem, the experience and honesty of the business leaders who have so generously given their time to contribute to Stepping up, and the empathetic and empowering leadership of my current boss, Rebekah, who guides me and so many others through the complex corridors of a global corporation and makes the journey fun! Not to mention the team who stepped up to get this book on the road. Stepping up is certainly the better for the super skills of Niamh O’Keeffe, Eloise Cook, Dan Bernardo, Scott Button, Louise Tullin, Josh Davis, Carl Mesner Lyons and Clemency Carlisle. You truly are the dream team, and without you all stepping up to accommodate for my deficiencies this book would not have made it out the door!
