The storage component of OpenWhisk is CouchDB. CouchDB is highly available, document-based data storage. The controller talks to CouchDB to store every entity related to the function invocation. The most important entity stored in CouchDB is the activation data. The activation data contains information of each invocation process. The progress of actions and their results are stored in the form of activation documents.

The official CouchDB version 1.6, couchdb:1.6, is used in the current configuration.
