There are several kinds of runtime provided by OpenWhisk. Java, Node.js, and Python are native runtimes, for example. As previously mentioned, the Docker runtime is called blackbox.

The runtime takes the Docker image registered by the process of action creation. Then it starts the Docker container to accept the request. The runtime can keep the container running so subsequent calls can be significantly faster.
