Learning calligraphy can be a fun and therapeutic hobby. If you are serious about developing your lettering skills, you need to spend time practicing and make sure that you’re doing it the right way.

With a busy schedule, it can be challenging to find the time to dedicate to your art. Below, I’ve shared tips that might help you organize your schedule and allow enough time to practice lettering.

• Find a place with as few distractions as possible. This will help you to stay focused and positive while learning a new skill. Areas such as your bedroom or workspace may be suitable for this.
• Designate a time of day for practicing calligraphy. Think of this as your date with yourself. I remember spending time practicing as my form of self-care when I wanted to relax after work.
• Discuss with the people in your home that you would like to allocate that time to practice and create art. In my case, since I started practicing every night after dinner, my parents quickly got used to my schedule, and they already knew that when I went to my room, I was spending time on my art. When I got married, my husband clearly understood that I needed some time to create because I’d discussed that with him.
• Think of progress over perfection and don’t compare yourself with others. It doesn’t matter if you’re still learning the basic strokes while others are embellishing letters. What is important is that you are taking steps to move forward. Embrace your own journey.

There is no shortcut to success, and the same principle applies when learning a new skill. Remember: the more you practice, the better you will get at it. No matter how much talent you have, it will be challenging to improve your skills over time without practice and dedication. But if you are willing to put in the time and effort, there is no limit to what level of skill that you can achieve.
