Acknowledgments

This book is the product of experience and wisdom shared so willingly with me over many years. I appreciate the opportunities so many clients have given us to refine the successive approximation model I started exploring way back with the PLATO project at Control Data Corporation, beginning in the mid-1970s. I would like to thank Wiley and Pfeiffer for allowing me to refer back to and include some material from my e-Learning Library Series.

In constructing this book, I'm particularly indebted to Richard Sites, who co-wrote many sections with me. Marty Lipshutz, my long-term business partner and friend helped with the example project plan and handled extra business responsibilities so I could have time to write. Ethan Edwards, our chief instructional designer, provided some very helpful examples of prototypes. Nicole Mellas, Linda Rening, and Lisa Stortz provided so many good ideas, corrected my oversights, and caught errors. They, and our custom e-learning studios, helped keep recommendations firmly grounded in realities. And, with the world's most extraordinary patience, Amy Pahl stayed with me through the process of getting ideas down, organized, and published.
