Conclusion
As you come to the end of The Financial Times Guide to Business Development,
I hope you have had several of those ‘that’s it’ moments, when something
has just clicked in your mind and you realise what you have been missing
and what you should do now. I also hope that as you have read through the
ideas, tips and techniques you have smiled once in a while.
At its simplest, business development success is all about:
getting the simple and basic things in place to begin with;
constantly keeping them under observation;
asking the right business questions;
getting your business development priorities right;
focusing on personal performance business development skills;
having the determination, wisdom and stamina to take sustained
action.
If you do all these things, then you are well on the way to business devel-
opment success.
Finally, remember two things:
1 Every single thing a business does has a potential impact on business
development.
2 It’s the customers and clients who pay the bills!
‘Every morning in Africa a gazelle awakens knowing it must today run
faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning a lion awakens
knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It matters not
whether you are a gazelle or a lion, when the sun rises you had better be
running.’
African proverb
