Strategy

There are two types of strategy one can apply to function optimization. You can either maximize or minimize your function optimization, as follows:

What do we mean by this? When we talk of maximizing or minimizing a function, what we mean is what the minimum or maximum value of that function can be. This is usually discussed in terms of either a global range or local range.

A global range would mean we want to determine the minimum or maximum value of the function over the whole range of input over which the function can be defined. This is commonly known as the domain of the function.

A local range, on the other hand, would mean we want to determine the minimum or maximum value of the function over the given local range, which will be a subset of the global range.
