RTAV does not use a USB to forward audio and webcam devices. Instead, the USB devices remain connected to the local client, and the audio and images are taken from the local device. Audio and image data are encoded and delivered to the guest virtual desktop machine, where they are then decoded. VMware installs a virtual webcam and a virtual microphone virtual desktop machine. These devices are used to play back the audio and video. You will see these device entries in the device manager of your virtual desktop machine.

RTAV can support the following:

• Connecting webcams and audio devices simultaneously, used for VoIP-based video conferencing apps such as Skype.
• Audio-in only (no video) for VoIP (voice-only) apps
• Webcam only; used for webcam monitoring type apps (CCTV, for example), and taking photos
